Secondary timing chain set (water pump/balancer shaft), genuine GM parts
If a slapping rubbing noise can be heard in the front engine area when the engine is cold, it is highly likely that the slide rail of the secondary timing chain drive for the balancer shaft / water pump is broken. This damage affects around 1/4 of all GTs with a mileage of 75,000 km or more.
Visual inspection of a broken tensioning rail for the water pump drive is possible via an inspection opening for the water pump.
Secondary timing chain set without sprockets, genuine GM
We only offer original GM spare parts here, which you can also have installed by an Opel dealer, as only then can the dealer give a guarantee on his repair. This is not possible with cheaper timing chain kits from the aftermarket, which are often of dubious quality. If necessary, have the dealer order the parts from us himself!
If the sprockets are still in order, we offer a set of original GM spare parts to replace the complete secondary timing chain drive, most of which are no longer available in Europe. Most Opel workshops now also order from us.
