Original GM/Pierburg Solenoid Valve for Blow-Off
The GM/Pierburg solenoid valve offered here (located at the top of the intake manifold next to the purge solenoid valve) uses vacuum pressure to control the blow-off, which is integrated into the turbocharger’s compressor housing. If this control valve is defective, a couple of specific problems may occur:
1. “Surging” (pumping) when lifting off the throttle
If the control valve is defective and does not open properly, the blow-off valve remains closed. The compressed air hits the closing throttle valve and rebounds onto the turbine blades. You hear a typical “chug-chug-chug” (fluttering). While this may sound sporty to some, it is detrimental to the bearings of your K04 turbocharger, as it causes extreme deceleration.
2. “Power dip” after shifting gears
Since the turbo loses a massive amount of RPM due to the backfiring air, it has to rebuild boost pressure after shifting. The car feels “dead” for a moment after shifting.
3. Boost pressure fluctuations under full load
If the control valve has an internal leak, it cannot maintain a clean vacuum: The bypass valve is unintentionally pushed open slightly under full load. The boost pressure does not reach its target value (approx. 0.9–1.0 bar on the stock GT, up to 1.5 bar with tuning). D
4. Error code P0234 or P0101
The LNF engine often generates error messages regarding boost pressure or the fasle error ?0101 for the mass airflow sensor, because the calculated air masses do not match what the (incorrectly open or closed) valve is doing.
The required replacement part is no longer available from Opel (last price 107,50 Euro). We supply the original Pierburg component in the version installed directly from the factory to ensure proper function.
